Learning about the DTV changes

After February 17, 2009, anyone that uses an antenna to watch TV will need a converter box or a new TV to continue to watch TV using an antenna. Analog-only TVs should continue to work with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players and similar products.

How will it affect me?

  • If you are a Partner Communications cable television customer, there is nothing you need to do. We’ll take care of the transition for you and your analog television will continue to work.
  • If you use an antenna to watch TV, you’ll either need a digital-to-analog converter box or a new TV in order to continue to receive programming with an antenna
  • $40 coupons are available to use toward a converter box, visit www.DTV.gov or www.dtv2009.gov or call 1-888-DTV-2009
  • An HDTV (high definition TV) is not required to view digital programming

Facts . . .

  • On February 17, 2009, analog television broadcasts will cease
  • Many TV sets will no longer be able to receive over-the-air signals
  • This date will mark the completion of a transition to digital TV or DTV, mandated by Congress
  • DTV allows broadcasters to provide higher quality pictures & sound
  • The FCC will use the freed up airwaves available for advanced communication for commercial & public safety use
